The Vologda State Pedagogical University is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the North-West of Russia. The history of this University goes back to 1912 when the teacher-training Institute was established. In 1918 it was renamed into the Pedagogical Institute. In 1995 the Institute got the status of University by the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation. Nowadays the Vologda State Pedagogical University is one of the biggest educational, cultural and scientific centers in the north-west of Russia.
